GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt operates one of the leading particle accelerators for science. Currently, the new FAIR ( F acility for A ntiproton and I on R esearch) one of the world's largest research projects, will be built in international cooperation. GSI and FAIR offer the opportunity to work in this international environment with a team of employees committed to ensuring each day to conduct world-class science.

The GSI department Hadron physics and QCD aims at predicting and postdicting scattering observables from QCD based approaches. We use empirical scattering data together with results from chiral EFT and Lattice QCD simulations to derive quantities that are outside the reach of direct experimental measurments but have decisive impact in simulation approaches to heavy-ion reactions as measured at GSI/FAIR.

Scientific Employee with PhD in Theory (all genders)

Your Tasks:

  • Scientific research in the field of hadron physics / lattice QCD
  • Derivation of loop correction terms in scattering processes from the chiral Lagrangian
  • Publication of scientific research results in relevant specialist journals
  • Presentation of research results at scientific conferences
  • Participation in the department activities.

Your Qualifications:

  • PhD, preferably on a topic of theoretical hadron physics
  • Technical and expert knowledge for effective field theories approaches to QCD
  • Ability to work systematically and independently
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Teamwork and didactic skills
  • Fluent English language skills.

We offer an interesting and challenging position in a vibrant international team. Theposition is initially offered for three years starting earliest in July 2026.

The salary is based on the German civil service employees (Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst - TVöD (Bund)).
