The German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) is committed to fostering impactful foreign and security policy on a German and European level that promotes democracy, peace, and the rule of law. Since its founding in 1955, the nonpartisan organization’s members and research have continued to shape the debate on foreign policy issues in Germany.

To start on 2026/09/01 and limited to 2026/12/31, we are looking for a Research Assistant (m/w/d; 80%, based on TVöD E10) Reference Number: 20-2026.

In the Future Orders Project, the DGAP team will bring together experts and policymakers from Germany/EU, Japan, and the Republic of Korea to re-imagine a world order without the United States.

This project seeks to find a space for security-strategy-thinking among German think tankers and policymakers together with key North Asian allies through a combination of research and workshops. The project aims to intensify relationships among German and Japanese and South Korean experts and policymakers, and facilitate multilateral strategies for a potentially positive future absent US leadership.

YOUR TASKS:

  • General content assistance, such as preparing invitations, meeting minutes, event concepts, and reports;
  • Assistance identifying researchers to participate in the project;
  • Supportive events management, including booking accommodation and travel, communication with participants, and catering, with the support of the DGAP events team;
  • Research for the Future Orders Project, including on academic order concepts as well as national debates and thinkers on issues of global order and economic and tech governance especially in Japan, Republic of Korea, Germany, and Europe Preparation of research overviews, including preparing short text drafts;
  • Stakeholder management, liaison with authors and workshop invitees.

Anforderungsprofil:

YOUR BACKGROUND AND SKILLS:

  • Completed university degree (Bachelor’s) in the fields of political science, international relations or other relevant disciplines;
  • Knowledge of Japanese and/or South Korean think tank and academic context is an asset;
  • Previous professional experience and/or work in a similar context is an asset;
  • Reliability, a structured approach, and attention to detail;
  • Ability to work flexibly, in a team;
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office applications;
  • Strong English skills, good German language skills.
